A Wild Ride: Actually Purchasing A Classic Ford Mustang

May 8th, 2010

Well, I have not gotten to speak on my blog half as often as I might like, because of all the time I have been roped into helping Dad fuel his incredibly wacky midlife crisis. Okay, some would argue it isn’t as far gone as it could possibly be. The thing is, what he did was to go and dress himself up like the Fonz or something, and come over to my crib and tell me, in his hippest dialect: “Hop in, son, you and I are going cruising for some classic Ford Mustangs for sale. You better believe it, son, I intend to make this thing happen.”

Next thing I know we were hopping around to a couple of those weird classic car places that you’re just about convinced the mob owns and operates, and I see the dude wrote a check without even stopping to think, for an alarmingly well-preserved classic Ford Mustang. I mean, it really is an intense item. It sounded amazing as well.

There’s a reason why I phrased about that sound in a past tense. It sounded perfect right up to the point that it stopped making any noises. The old man maintains that it’s a simple fix and that all it will take is the right part. The problem is, it can’t possibly be as straightforward to find classic Mustang parts as it was over three decades years ago, but my Dad insists that there is a really big availability for them regardless. From what I’m told the best place to find parts for 1969 Mustangs is through online auctions, since you can find them all refurbished and occasionally better than new. They’re not necessarily a steal, though… I mean, these are 30-year-old Mustang parts.

Could be worse, though… He might’ve bought a toupee.
