Lamp Choices To Consider
It can be a little daunting when it comes to choosing desk lamps and floor lamps. There is definitely no shortage when it comes to the selection available, and it can be hard to find the right ones that will blend in with the decor of your home.
And with the high cost of electricity being a concern, especially in these tough economic times, you also want to be sure you are choosing ones that are energy-efficient as well as attractive. So how do you go about conducting the selection process? Here are a few tips that may help.
First of all, when deciding on the placement of the lamps for the home, you should have some variety. Don’t place all the lamps at the same height. A staggered effect will go along way to create different areas of light and shade, which can make the room much more interesting. And it’s important that the base and the shade of the lamp be in proportion to each other and with the other furniture in the room.
When you are seated, the shade should be at the same level as your eyes, and the bulb shouldn’t be visible. As far as the shade, it should never dwarf the lamp, and the more lighting you want the lamp to give off, the more transparent the shade should be.
As far as energy efficiency when it comes to lamps for the home, the best rule of thumb is to only have as many lamps in a room that you actually need. You may even consider an antler lamp. Because of this, it becomes very important where you place the lamps. Since lamps are great for task lighting, only place them where you will be performing specific functions, such as reading, sewing, cooking, or grooming.
When it comes to the brightness of the bulb in your lamp, keep in mind that the lamp should be approximately three or four times lighter than the surrounding room light. This should ensure that you have enough light without causing eyestrain.
When choosing lamps for the home, you also need to consider whether you want a floor lamp, table lamp or even an antique lamp. Since many floor lamps are adjustable when it comes to height, they can be more versatile, and they generally take up little floor space. If you think you won’t be changing the position of your lighting, then a table lamp may be the better choice.
