is a martial art and fighting sport that was started in Korea. It strives to achieve modesty, perseverance, self control and indomitable spirit.
Through dedicated training the martial artist would hope to attain mental and physical fitness. By dedicated practising and repeating every move to near perfection, over time become more and more patient. Self-confidence is gained through the power of one’s body and the understanding of how to use it at any place and in any given situation. Sparring helps us gain humility, courage, alertness, and accuracy and develops self-control. By learning Taewkondo forms , we maximise our flexibility, grace, balance and co-ordination.
Through the discipline and interaction with others, we learn co-operation and mutual respect. As well as gaining a healthier, leaner and more flexible body, we also increase staying power through a typical training regime. The health-related effects of training are extensive.
Taekwondo has been going through a learning process for over several thousand years. But, it was not until the 1950s that Taekwondo was standardized and organized by General Choi Hong Hi and the sport was learned outside of Korea, at first to Vietnam and the America, and later to the rest of the world. As we speak, Taekwondo is organized in 3 international federations: WTF,ITF and the GTFTaekwondo with the first competition held during the Sydney olympics
