Organic Hydroponic Greenhouses Advantages

January 22nd, 2010

The concept of greenhouse has been in the media from about two decades ago. Although there are a number of greenhouses working in large scale in the word for a few decades now, we do not hear about them oftentimes as it used to be. This may be due to the fact that greenhouse concept has already got a stale subject matter or go green campaigns have become more outstanding in the  green  front. However, building a hydroponic greenhouse is a common event that can be seen everywhere in the world.

Hydroponic greenhouse was first constructed to make sure that some of the tropical plants can be grown in non-tropical circumstances. For this, an synthetic container was constructed with tropical like surroundings where the  greenhouse  effect was used to keep the tropical temperature and humidity.

In a hydroponic greenhouse, gravel is used as the medium of rooting. The gravel is supported with a lot of nutrition required for plants. Sometimes, the nutrition might not be required all the time. In such cases, the nourishment is given periodically through an advanced irrigation system. Such custom method is called  sub-irrigation culture . In a grand or commercial hydroponic greenhouse, every action after planting a seed is done through advanced mechanisation. If something is lacking for the plants, the sensors planted among the plat can sense the shortage.

There are some rewards of a hydroponic greenhouse. First and foremost is the amount of crop. The output is often a few times compared to orthodox agriculture. Then, there is less damage for the harvest from insects and fungus due to the extremely controlled surroundings. Hence, while the operating cost being minimal, high return on the investment is gained.

A hydroponic greenhouse is not safe from its critics. There are numerous individuals who will not consume products of a hydroponic greenhouse. Mainly this is due to the misconception and confusion between the products created in a hydroponic greenhouse and genetic engineering. the fear of genetically engineered fruits and vegetables is one of the main fears associated with hydroponic greenhouse. Next is the chemical substance farming issue. Compared to the traditional farming, a hydroponic greenhouse will use huge amounts of chemical substance for helping the growth and protecting the plants from damage. This is seen as unhealthy as numerous individuals and organizations.

Unlike traditional agriculture, products from a hydroponic greenhouse look better and consistent. Therefore, such products do have a good response in the supermarkets.
