Short Reviews of Magellan Portable GPS Navigator Units
Magellan has been one of the top manufacturers of GPS devices and the Magellan Maestro 5310 is one of their ranges of portable GPS navigators in the market. The Magellan Maestro 5310 is, thin at just 0.79 inches and weighs less than 7 ounces, very portable to be used inside and outside of a car with 3 hours of usage time. Also in the market is the Magellan Maestro 4250 which allows you to control the portable navigation system with voice commands. This Car GPS review reviews the 2 Maestros.
The Magellan Maestro 5310 boasts a 5 inch WQVGA (480 x 272 pixels) resolution screen which automatically adjusts colour and contrast with Auto NightView for the clearest view irrespective day or night. You can easily figure out how to find out a navigation route to any particular address without turning to the manual. The interface exhibits large fonts which make it easier for users to read, see and use the device. Searching for landmark is also considerably fast. Given the 5 inch big display, it is slightly a pity the Magellan Maestro 5310 does not include a multimedia player.
At 3.2 inches high by 4.8 inches wide by 0.7 inch deep and 6.8 ounces, the Magellan Maestro 4250 comes in the form of voice commands. With this great safety boast, you can use the in-car GPS device with the sound of your voice. However, the feature is a bit limited as you can’t enter addresses via voice and will have to construct a pretty quiet environment in your car for optimal results. The limited voice command allows rerouting; finding points of interest; routing to your home address; and a couple more of other functions. It also has integrated Bluetooth, so you can pair your Bluetooth-enabled cell phone and use the Magellan Maestro 4250 as a hands-free speaker system. With it, you can use the Maestro like any other Bluetooth devices or the phone itself. You can also directly dial any number associated with a POI. Another function that separates it from other GPS, the screen automatically separates in two to display you a layout graphic and where you should go at the next turn. The unit is conscientious about giving instructions, with numerous text-to-speech voice prompts and audibly warning you at several intervals before the turn with enough notice that you’re not making sudden manoeuvres.
